Welcome to the team: Oliver Hitchen

Before we start with the work stuff – What do you like to get up to outside of the office?

I spend most weekends on the beach in Anglesey with my wife, Natalie and 2 children, Leo & Zara. When we are not doing that I am supporting Leo at football tournaments and Zara with dancing.

At home, I am a really good cook and enjoy cooking exotic dishes, especially thai food…

I am a fantastic party host.. (even if I do say so myself) The Hitchen household is renowned as a great party house!

What was your career before recruitment?

I spent 10 years working in Procurement & Supply Chain for a global fine chemicals organisation. I worked my way through the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Chain qualifications which gave me the opportunity to work in a number of positions through the company within supply chain & procurement.

I had great exposure to Global supply chain initiatives, with the most memorable being involved with a global freight tender with a spend of 23 million dollars!

How did you get into recruitment?

When my current site closed, I went to a recruiter to find a new position. They sold me the career of a recruitment consultant which I quite liked the idea of… the rest is history.

Tell us about your move to Detail2Recruitment

I was approached by Claire, Detail2’s very talented Internal Recruiter. She explained how they wanted to grow their supply chain & logistics sector which definitely sounded appealing. After a few meetings with the owners, I felt the fit was perfect for me. The culture of the business felt great and the job was one I knew I could do and add real value to. I was excited to be part of growing business and a sector that I feel really passionate about.

What is your remit at Detail2?

I have been brought on board to grow the Supply Chain, Logistics & Engineering & Manufacturing brands.

These sectors have a lot of synergy. From a customer centric point of view, we will be able to offer our clients full exposure to the end to end manufacturing process. This will also be great for building long term relationships with our customer base. Being able to provide all the technical recruitment requirements, we will have an intimate understanding of our clients businesses.

What are your plans over the next 12 months?

Ultimately over the next year, I will be growing the sector and building 2 separate teams. (Logistics & Supply Chain / Engineering & Manufacturing).

I will be building a recognisable brand in those sectors and becoming a trusted advisor to both clients and candidates within these sectors.

What is the best piece of recruitment advice you can give to anyone wanting to join the industry?

Do what you say you are going to do and if you do that, you will go far. Be honest! If you can’t help someone, just tell them.

What do you think the best thing about working for Detail2 is going to be?

Getting to know the team and living life for the moment with my new team buddies!
